<p>When I first imagined the <a href="/solarpunk/solacion">Solacion universe</a>, I felt it could more than just a fantastical story world—it could be an inspiration for change.</p>
<p>With some creative inspiration from a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-asb8zTiuZ4">rebellion in a galaxy far, far away</a>, I started writing a script for an animated movie to inspire climate action.</p>
<h2 id="meet-the-solacion-cast">Meet the Solacion Cast</h2>
<p>In the movie, you’ll briefly meet the main protagonists of Solacion: Chel from Honduras, Raj from Bangladesh, Mei from Shanghai, Amadou from Cameroon, and Lina from Sweden.</p>

<p>Creating this project was an fun journey in itself. Using tools like Midjourney for images and animations, ElevenLabs for voiceovers, Suno for music, and CapCut for video editing, I brought the world of Solacion to life.</p>

<p>I hope this can encourage a collective rebellion against climate change through this project, rallying us all to protect our Earth.</p>

Solacion: The Climate Rebellion

<p><strong>It feels like we’re on the brink of a revolution.</strong> With the world as it is today, filled with climate turmoil and social inequity, our outlook can sometimes seem daunting. It feels as though every day, we’re bombarded with news of environmental disasters, economic instability, or political unrest.</p>
<p>With these challenges, I’ve been dreaming about Society 2.0 – a new type of society dedicated to compassion, sustainability, and equality. In this new world, we commit to a positive outlook, imagining how life could be if we prioritized people and the planet equally, dreaming of better days ahead.</p>
<h2 id="society-20">Society 2.0</h2>

<p>In Society 2.0, the foundation is <strong>compassion</strong>. Everyone is taxed fairly on wealth and income, ensuring no loopholes or corruption. Basic human needs, like healthcare and education, are free. Need a place to live or food to eat? These basic amenities are also provided, paired with the freedom for generous parental leave. Public ownership of infrastructure like roads and energy ensures that everyone benefits.</p>
<p>Next, protection is vital. We must not harm people or animals, and we should avoid taking from nature more than we can repair or return. Ethical progress becomes our driving force, focusing on science, inventions, and rational thinking. It’s a society that rejects the military-industrial complex and embraces a peaceful coexistence.</p>
<p>Finally, responsible freedom governs our actions. Anything goes, as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone else or violate our founding principles. Tolerance is key, except for intolerance itself. And while methods like taxes and subsidies aren’t used to manipulate behavior, ethical conduct is naturally encouraged through cultural norms.</p>
<h2 id="exploring-similar-concepts">Exploring Similar Concepts</h2>
<p>In fleshing out Society 2.0, I looked at related concepts like <strong>Eco-Humanism</strong> and <strong>Unitism</strong>, which promote ecological balance and social harmony. There’s inspiration from <strong>Post-Capitalism</strong> and <strong>Social Liberalism</strong> advocating for shared wealth and social justice, while the <strong>Nordic Model</strong> shows us the feasibility of high taxes in support of robust welfare systems.</p>
<p>By incorporating ideas from different schools of thought, Society 2.0 attempts to craft a thriving world that respects both human and environmental needs. </p>
<p>I know I’m naive, but I remain hopeful and eager to see discussions a new and better society.</p>

<p>I’m now listening to <a href="https://open.spotify.com/episode/4hLwDmoG2SK6AIwhSRJM1a?si=H9tKkQcYTYe6zSFKjZHeVQ">this great podcast on Samuel Biagetti’s “Historiansplaining”</a> that delves into the history of the Confederacy and the hard-fought battle to abolish slavery in the United States. It’s a compelling reminder of how deeply divided that country was—both the South clinging to an institution it deemed vital for its economy and the North, wrestling with its moral compass and its own economic ties to the slave trade. Yet, it’s astonishing to see how, despite the undeniable evil of slavery, it was so entrenched due to economic greed and capitalist interests.</p>
<h2 id="historical-division-and-economic-entrapment">Historical Division and Economic Entrapment</h2>
<p>The structure of the United States during the Civil War era was one of stark contradictions—an economy heavily reliant on morally unjust practices. As I listen, I’m struck by the parallels with our current environmental situation. Much like slavery, we find ourselves tethered to capitalistic systems that are progressively harming our planet. It’s clear that once again, economic dependency on harmful practices creates a political and social stagnation. But we take the situation as granted, impossible to change.</p>
<h2 id="learning-from-the-past">Learning from the Past</h2>
<p>The story of the abolitionist movement is a history lesson that offers hope. We learn that monumental changes are possible—despite the grips of capitalism—because they are supported by moral urgency and grassroots activism. Just as those who fought to end slavery united against prevailing structures, modern environmental efforts show promise when collective will coalesces around sustainable change.</p>
<h2 id="taking-steps-towards-change">Taking Steps Towards Change</h2>
<p>With these thoughts in mind, I find a sliver of hope and a renewed sense of purpose. The end of slavery serves as historical proof that we can overcome massive economic and social challenges. It’s a testament to human determination and moral clarity. We can indeed stop doing bad things and pivot towards a more just, sustainable future. But abolition led to the American Civil War, and I hope we can change without a war.</p>
